Hokudai/Cast is stealing an idea from the A Word A Day website and introducing one word on each episode of Hokudai/Cast. I guess this would be more like a word a week. The idea is for you to listen to the word and try to use it during the week. If you use a word often, you will keep it and it will become part of your vocabulary.
Over time, your vocabulary will grow and grow into gigantic proportions! Great news, eh?

In Hokuriku University news, a senior baseball player has been drafted by a local minor league team. This could be a step towards the Japanese major leagues. Also, a freshwoman has won the Junior Olympic trampoline championships. And, if you're interested in ice hockey, Hokuriku University's hockey team was chosen to play in the national collegiate championships for the 14th year in a row. Pretty exciting sports stuff at Hokuriku University this week.

Back to building your vocabulary. The first thing you should do is read. When you come to a word you don't know, look it up and try to use it often. The more you read, the larger your vocabulary will become. The next thing you should do is listen. Listen to podcasts, like Hokudai/Cast and others that use the language you want to learn. The more you listen, the larger your vocabulary will become. Finally, don't forget to use the words as often as possible. The more often you use a word, the more your brain will remember it.
