Hokudai/Cast 82: Festive Festival

Click on the title to listen to Hokudai/Cast 82

In Hokudai/Cast 82 we interview people who took part in Hokuriku University's school festival (学園祭 - gakuensai - in Japanese.) Please remember that not everyone at Hokuriku nor everyone in Japan studies English or speaks it. We snuck up on people and asked them questions - student bandin English. They had to struggle to get the answers. They did well. We also have some music by a student band and a teacher.

To the left is a photo of a student band doing a sound check. Drums, bass, guitar, and vocalist. Kind of a heavy metal sound with J.pop lyrics.

To the right are two of the many booths set up by different clubs. Most of them are selling food or drinks; some sell handmade or recycled things.

Here is a short (six and a half minutes) movie: Festive Festival Part One. It begins with traditional taiko (drums) and it has koto music, a street scene, and rock-pop music (acoustic and electric guitar and beat box). Please watch and enjoy.

Taiko drumming 0:00 - 0:13
Koto 0:20 - 3:32
Street scene 3:32 - 4:02
Utalu Rock/Pop music 4:03 - 6:32
